DAY ONE–Tuesday, October 24, 2023
8:30 a.m.: Departure from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 418 Maxwell Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
 

11 a.m-noon.: Guided tour of the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. This national
historic landmark served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill beginning in the mid 1800’s. This 160-year old asylum holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, gold robberies and the many “curative” efforts to better the lives of the mentally ill. The asylum is a site of noted paranormal activity and ghost hunters explore the building year round. Guests will take the Heritage and History tour of the first floor only to learn of the history of treatment for the mentally ill prior to regulated state run facilities were in place. You will also learn about the unique Gothic architecture of the building and many interesting facts and features to this unique historic hospital.


12:30-1:45 p.m.: Lunch at Thyme Bistro in Weston, WV. Sit back, relax and enjoy lunch in
this charming bistro on Main Street in historic Weston, WV.

 

2-3:00 p.m.: After lunch, take some time to cross the street and take the self-guided tour of
the Museum of American Glass in West Virginia. Established in 1993, the mission of this
museum is to share the diverse and rich heritage of glass as a useful product and an historical object and to explore the lives of the workers, their families and the tools and machines they used in glass houses. With a focus on the years 1900- 1940 , guests will see many of the beautiful and diverse glass items that graced the tables of America. The museum also focuses on some of America’s most famous glass factories and their impact on the glass industry.

 

3:30 p.m.: Check into Stonewall Resort located in Roanoke, WV on 1900 acres of unspoiled
State Park. The experience staying here brings you close to nature and is inspiring for the soul. Your stay includes full use of all the resort amenities , including indoor/outdoor pool, use of the fitness center, use of steam room and sauna, high speed internet, use of the park shuttle, business center , hiking and biking trails, basic fishing equipment and firepits.
All rooms include: mini fridge, flat screen TV, coffeemaker, climate control and internet access. Two queen-sized bed for double occupancy or king-sized for single travelers.

 

6-8 p.m.: Taco Tuesday on Stonewall Lake! Enjoy a two-hour cruise on “Little Sorrel,” the
resort’s excursion boat, with an all-you-can-eat buffet of hard and soft tacos, (beef, pork and chicken) with all the toppings, house made guacamole and chips. And don’t forget, two cocktails of your choice are included...of course margaritas will be available. Lights and music make this a memorable autumn evening cruising Stonewall Lake .

 

8 p.m.-???- It’s your free time to swim in the indoor heated pool, sit by the firepits and enjoy the s’more bar ($9 pp) or just relax in the beautiful public spaces of the resort .

 

Day 2- Wednesday, October 25, 2023
8-9 a.m.: Enjoy the bountiful breakfast buffet in Stillwaters Restaurant.

 

9-11 a.m.: Free time to enjoy the resort amenities or perhaps take a walk and enjoy the
beautiful autumn scenery.

 

11:30 a.m.: Meet in the lobby with your bags for check out and departure from beautiful
Stonewall Resort.

 

Noon-2 p.m.: Enjoy a private tour of Lambert Winery nestled in the heart of West Virginia. Experience a tasting of some of the best wine the state has to offer. Taste them first hand and just the one to suit your palate. Then enjoy a glass with our brick oven pizza and salad lunch served at the winery. The winery also has a unique gift shop featuring a large selection of West Virginian made crafts.

 

4:30 pm - Return to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
